Braunau is a small village in northern Austria. This was Adolf Hitler's hometown. He attended primary school there. The NAZIs seized Austria in the Anschluß (March 1938).
Hitler made a trimutful visit to Austria after the Anschluß. He visited Braunau (March 12, 1938). The population as in the rest of Austria gave him a thunderous welcome. Geoff Walden's internet site provides a record of that visit. Hitler returned in 1939 a few nonths before the War began and visited his old school. I'm not sure if the school had a name other than the Braunau village school. At the time Austria no longer existed as an independent country, thus the school would have been in the German Reich. Eva Braun took home movies of Hitler and the children. This must have been a less publicized event as Eva did not make important public appearances with Hitler. We see images of Hitler with the children. Hitler liked to have his picture taken with children as it was part of building his public image. The image was that Hitler was married to and devoted to the German peiople. While the images are not very clear, these early color images show the color of the clothes the children were wearing. Notice that the boys are wearing green jackets with fol styling. Presumably this was on the occassion of the Führer's visit. We suspect that they were not worn every day. Also note that many of the children are barefoot.
