At some of these activities, Russian children appear to dress more formally than is common in Western countries, especially modern schools. This seems to be the case for class parties. The Russian class on the previous page is having a party. I'm not sure just what they are celebrating. The boys are all wearing suits. Some of the girls have dressed up for the occassion, but not all of them. That seems a bit curious. Our experience is that usually it is the girls who want to dress up. Some of the parties are school events such as an end of year party. Other parties wete for major holidays such as New Years. We are not sure about the different holiday dor which class parties were held. Nor or we sure what kind of activities and games were organized at the parties. There were good things to eat. We see sit-down arrangements for the refreshments. Here we see Russian children at their New years party in 1977. The look to be 1st or 2nd graders. They don't look dressed for winter weather. The white knee socks suggesrs that they did dress up. The sailor caps ssuggest that they may be at a school near a baval base.
