A very famous illustrator and painter in Russia today is Viktor Chizhikov. I do not know much about him. He was born in 1935. He has created illustrations for children's books and magazines. He illustrated Sergei Mikhalkov's fairy tale "Prazdnik Neposlushanya" (Day of Children's Disobedience). The Soviet Union held an all-Union contest to create a mascot for the Moscow Olympics (1977). The first step was a quiz among children, and most of them wished to see a bear as the mascot. Then there were a contest among professional artists to create the Bear. Viktor Chizhikov's drawing, Misha", won and was thus the official mascot for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Chizhikov is perhaps best known in Russia as the creator of the Bear Misha, the cartoon mascot for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.
