Figure 1.--This miature painting shows th color of an American sailor suit in 1907. This is a particularly interesting image provides a colored image to help put all the black and white photographs in perspective. He wears a medium blue kneepants sailor slue, presumabably for summer wear.

Artist

Here we are not sure about the artist. The name on the front of a minature we have found appears to read Harrison Hardenstedt although some of the letters are difficult to make out. These appear to be the artist's name and the boy he painted, but we cannot be sure about this. Hepainted minatures. It was stored in a velet-lined box. It is 4 1/4" x 3 1/4". The entire box is 5" x 6 1/2".

Chronology

This portrait is dated to 1907.

Boy

We know little about the boy. His name is not on the back of the portrait. He appears to be from New England. The portrait was sold in a 2002 New England estate offering. The seller describes him as a "charming angelic looking boy of about 6 years old and was a family member from an old Rhode Island family. sure.

Clothing

This miature painting shows th color of an American sailor suit in 1907. This is a particularly interesting image provides a colored image to help put all the black and white photographs in perspective. He wears a medium blue kneepants sailor slue, presumabably for summer wear. He ears matching blue kneesocks with his sailor suit. His sailor suit has a string tie rather than scarfe.
