Some photographic studios may have had contracts or business associations with local artists. It sees to have been popular to paint portraits of younger children in formal attire. The boy here seems to be wearing a shortall suit. It is forrest green. The large ruffle collar had lace edging. It is difficult to tell that the outfit is shortalls because of the large ruffled collar. Note the blouse sleeves which suggests that he is waring a shortall outfit. The double-breasted look with the buttons is unusual. We note quite a few of these formal portraits. They were often done before the children reached school age. A good example is an unidentified portrait painted about 2005. We notice that since the 1990s the children are often shown barefoot. This seemes to have been particularly popular in the South. Notice the bangs hair cut, a popular style for these portraits.
