Figure 1.--This cabinet card portrait shows Harry B. Decker who looks to be about 8 years old. He wears an elegant cut-away jacket suit with heavy enbroiered frogging. The vested suit has knee pants and Harry wears long stockings and high-top shoes. The cut-away jacket we see in the 1860s and even 70s were often plain. This suit had a rather loud pattern. Harry has a large Eton collar and floppy bow. The bow is small by 1880s standards, perhaps the portrait was takebn in the early-80s. His hair is done with a high razor part. On the back he is identifed as the son of Lom Henry and May (Hogett) Decker. The portrait is undated, but looks to have been taken in the 1880s. The studio is Glines in Boston, Massachuetts. shirt.

Harry B. Decker (United States, 1880s)

This cabinet card portrait shows Harry B. Decker who looks to be about 8 years old. Harry clearly had a very fashionable and doting mother. He wears an elegant cut-away jacket suit with notable decorative element, heavy enbroiered frogging and piping. The vested suit has knee pants. Knee pants by the 1880s had become fairly standard for younger boys, although not yet common for older boys. This began to change by the end of the decade. Harry wears long stockings and high-top shoes, almost universal at the time in America. The cut-away jacket we see in the 1860s and even 70s were often plain. This suit had a rather loud pattern or perhaps betterdescribed as a weaving ptttern with varied light and fdark areas. Harry has a large Eton collar and colorful floppy bow. Mother has slicked down his hair and combed it with a sharp razor part. On the back he is identifed as the son of Lom Henry and May (Hogett) Decker. The portrait is undated, but looks to have been taken in the 1880s. The studio is Glines in Boston, Massachuetts.
