This French Candaian family is having a family outing along the seaside in 1942. Interestingly the children are all dressed up for the occassion. The photograph is interesting because of the wide array of clothing being worn. The youngest boy is wearing a suit with long tan stockings. Another boy is wearing a blouse with a Peter Pan collar along with short pants and kneesocks, long enough to be used as long stockings. The oldest boy is wearing knickers. The girl is wearing a sailor dress. Our reader writes, "This snapshot was taken by my mother and it shows a group of children in the center and older kids around. I am the one with the cap, a sweater and knee socks. I was 6 year-old. Near from me is a friend 5 y.o wearing a
costume made by my mother when i was 5 y.o. You can see also tan
stockings on the little boy's legs. A few weeks later, I was also in
long stockings because of the cold weather. it is mid-october and oak
leaves are fallen down . It is interesting to see the sailor suit on
the girl who is 8 y.o , the breeches on the 11 y.o. Sorry for the
quality of the photo but I think it stays a marvelous testimony of
those war years in Canada."
