Unidentified Danish Family (Danish West Indies, about 1915-16)


Figure 1.-- Given the tropical location, the Danish famjily here and German friends about 1915-16 are almost all wearing white. It is a Danish family, apparently with some German friends. At the front of the photo is an adolescent boy wearing a Boy Scout uniform. Presumablky he is a Danish Scout. Notice the star on his lemon-squeezer Scout hat. We are not sure what that represented. It is not the scout badge we usually see. Also note one of the younger boys wearing rompers. Put your cursor on the image to see the rest of the family.

A reader has sent a photograph of an unidentified Danish family taken in the Danish West Indies during World war I. She believes that it was taken about 1915-16. The Danish West Indies would a a year or so later be purcjhased by the United stayes ahd becane the Virgin Islnds (1917). Given the tropical location, they are almost all wearing white.
