It has developed under the guidance of 55 'Chairmen of the Board', eight headmasters, 52 Preidents of the High School Old Boys' Association, 50 Presidents of the Parent Teacher Association; 103 Senior Monitors; and 370 members of School Teaching staff -- "The Professionals".

Structures

The first governing body of our School was the Canterbury University College Council. This was appropriate for the major purpose of the School was to produce students for the C.U.C. ... in 1949 our School came under the control of an independent Board of Managers (in 1954 renamed the Board of Governors). This governing body contained representatives from the Govenor-General; the Canterbury Educational Board; the University of Canterbury; parents of pupils; and the Old Boys' Association. ... we have also followed the Government policy (1990) to re-structure our governing body, and now have our first Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees contains representatives from all sections of the School Family -- Teachers, Students, Old Boys and Parents. Its members have been elected or co-opted to look after the interests of our School 'in trust'.

Parents

From the President of the Parent-Teachers Association

The P.T.A. are committed to carrying on the tradition of our predecessors in supporting the school with material goods. We look forward to a rewarding future bringing together all the parents of the school in our social activities and fund raising projects to provide for the school. We cannot succeed in either of these objectives without the support of the school as awhole. Through providing for the school the parents enter into the spirit of the school motto--Altioria Peto.

Parent Teacher Association

The P.T.A. has enjoyed a full and varied programme in 1984. The two major functions were the raffle organized by Mr. M. Stockwelland making about $13,000 and the now historic Boys' High Fair held on Saturday, October 13 in perfect weather. The fair was organized by Mr and Mrs P. Simmonds who, with a band of enthusiastic helpers, raised an enormous sum of money. .... On July 7 a working party of parents removed all the metal pipes from the basement by the old Tick Shop and cleaned up the area under the stairwell by the Library.
