We have collected a variety of photographs taken in Germany during the Allied World war II occupation. Some of them are interesing to do not fit neatly to any of the categories here. Some of them we do not fully understand. Hopefully our German readers will provide some insights here to help us better understand what was going on in Germany.

Tank Turret Park

This photograph was taken July 22, 1945 only a few months after the fall of Berlin to the Red Army. Much of Berlin was in ruins, although here we see buildings standing. (There look to be ruins further down the street. The GI shows that the Americans have arrived. What is unusual here is that it looks like a tank turret has been used to create a park for the children to play on. Both the children and the GI seem interested. We were a little surprised to see this. Presumably the NAZIs did this and it was probably removed soon after. There is also a monument here which probably existed before the NAZIs put the tank turret here. This little park (without the tirret) may still exist in Berlin.
