I am not sure just when mail order catalogs appeared. Advertisments and fashion magazines in 1951 show boys wearing rompers and short pants suits in 1951. Younger boys might even wear a lace collar for formal events and shorts with button on styling. Older boys might wear casual jackets. The beret still appears to a bopular cap style.
