Minneapolis Knitting Mills

The company at the time was one of the principal manugacturers of underwear in the United states. The Minneapolis Kinitting Works after World War I developed new styles of underwar for children. An ad in Parents' Magazine read, "Minneapolis "M" garments are universally accepted as the correct underdressing in juvenile styles. The fashionable French Type (short trunk) garments illustrated above are made for both boys and girls in all popular fabrics." The advertisement appeared in Parents Magazine during September, 1930, p. 45. This Minneapolis Knitting Works advertisement, timed obviously for mothers who were shopping for their school children at the beginning of the school year, advertises principally waists suits. The ad shows a wide range of underwear garments.

Garments

The Minneapolis Knitting Mills placed an advertisement for their underwear in Parents Magazine (October, 1928, p. 43). The ad shows several of their styles of children's underwear, including sleepwear, union suits, waist union suits, and an infant's undershirt. Descending the staircase, there are four different garments illustrated: 1) a child's Dr. Denton-style sleeping garment with feet and a drop seat; 2) a boy's or girl's untaped thigh-length union suit with short sleeves and a drop seat; 3) a boy's or girl's trunk-length waist union suit with sleeveless top. This has strap reinforcements over the shoulders, and waist buttons at front, back, and sides, also metal pinning tubes at the sides for attaching hose supporters and a drop seat; 4) an infants' long-sleeve undershirt. The ad copy reads: "Minneapolis Garments: The Perfect Underwear for Children. Under this trademark, millions of mothers have found the underwear in which they've raised their children--from birth to sixteen years. Minneapolis "M" Garment include: Infants' Shirts, Bands, Binders, Panty Waists; Children's Union Suits, Waist Union Suits, Sleeping Garments, Bi-Knit Infants Shirts (soft cotton inside, part wool outside, in a single knitted fabric.) [HBC Note: the "Bands, Binders, and Panty Waists" are not illustrated here.] Style, Comfort, Durability: All three are happily combined in Minneapolis "M" Garments .. up-to-the-minute style that pleases modern children, correct sizes, soft fabrics and careful finish that assure utmost comfort, fit that neither washes out nor wears out.
