Prince Leopold: Family Relationships

Figure 1.--This early card de viste (CDV) is of the two youngest sons of Queen Victoria, the Princes Arthur and Leopold. The boys were presumably photographed together because they were together so much. Prince Arthur has a protective arm around his little brother who seems a little intimidated by the camera. Both boys are dressed up in kilts for the portrait. The portrait is undated, but given the approximate ages of the boys, we woulg guess anout 1858.

One interesting topic is the family relationships, including the information among the children. We do not yet have much information about Prince Leopold. Of course being the next to youngest azd the youngest boy affectedthose relationships. We assume that they were very close as they were the two youngest brothers separated by 3 years. Thus they would have spent a great deal of time playing together. We do note an early CDV portrait of Prince Leopold and Prince Arthur. The boys were presumably photographed together because they were together so much. Prince Arthur has a protective arm around his little brother who seems a little intimidated by the camera. Both boys are dressed up in kilts for the portrait.
