European Royalty: Saxe-Altenburg--Ernst II

Figure 1.--Duke Ernst married Adelheid (1875-1971). I think that she was also German, but know nothing about her. Duke Ernst Duchess Adelheid had four children, two boys and two girls. The children are: Hereditary Duke Georg-Moritz (1900-1991), Prince Friedrich-Ernst (1905-1985), Princess Charlotte (1899-1989), and Princess Elisabeth (1903-1991).

We have no information on Saxe-Altenburg. We are somewhat confused by the different principalities with Saxe in the name. We have some portraits of the royal family, but no information on the principality now. Hopefully our German readers with provide us some information about Saxe-Altenburg. The only member of the dynasty we know of today is Duke Ernst II. Duke Ernst married Adelheid (1875-1971). I think that she was also German, but know nothing about her. Their mother like many German mothers was very practical to sailor suits. Except as babies, we only see the boys dressed in sailor suits which thy wore with soft caps. The sailor suits all look to be very traditional styles. Even the girls at times wore sailor suits. The boys' hair was clipped very short, almost shaved. The girls had long hair worn with hair bows. Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Altenburg was ousted on November 12, 1918. The House of Saxe-Altenburg is extinct today.
