Monaco Royalty: Princess Caroline

The Grimadi family's roots are in Italy, but their history has been intertwined with that of Monaco for nearly a millenium. The Current soverign is Prince Ranier III. His and the late Princess Grace's eldest daughter is HRH Princess Caroline.

Childhood

Caroline was Prince Ranier and Princes Grace's first child born in 1957. She became extremely unruly and difficult to deal with as a teenager.

Marriage

Princess Caroline's first marriage ended in a bitter divorce. Caroline lost her second husband, Stephano Casiraghi, in 1990. He was the father of their three children, in a powerboat racing accident.

Children

Princess Caroline has three children:
Andrea (1984): Andrea is the son of Prince Ranier and Princess Grace's eldest child--Princess Caroline. He was born in 1984. Prince Andrea was very sweetly dressed, but only as a little boy. Princess Grace in 1998 was reportedly speaking with her father Princ Rannier about the possibility of Andrea suceeding him instead of his son and her brother, Albert.

The Children's Clothes

As Caroline was a bit of a terror as a teenager and young adult some thought that motherhood might not be a major attraction for her. Caroline aince the 1980s seems to have settled down. Motherhood must have been part of the region. And interestigly this young rebel selected very traditional fancy clothes for her two boys and girls. The boys wore sailor suits, velvet short pants, blouses, white kneesocks, sandals, and bows. They only wore these outfits, however, as younger boys. By the time they reached school age they were wearing clothes little different than other wealthy European boys.

New Mairrage

HRH Prince Ernst August, son of the late Prince Ernst August of Hanover and the late Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg; has married in a quiet ceremony.

This happy event was expected to happen any moment. The couple seem tohave asked Queen Elizabeth II's permission, as Ernst August has to do beinga descendant of Sophie of Hanover (1631-1714). By marrying a CatholicErnst August forsakes his position in the line of succession to the Englishthrone, yet retains his hereditary rights to the throne of Hanover. Notthat we are expecting a restoration in Germany of course....but this giveshim Headship to the Family of Hanover.

Ernst August and Caroline seem to be expecting a child in Summer. It wouldbe Caroline's fourth child as she has three little Casiraghis fathered by her late husband, the handsome thrill-seeking Andrea Casiraghi. ErnstAugust has two sons from his previous marriage to chocolate-heiress ChantalHochuli, a very distinguished and dignified ex-wife.
