Prince Leopold and Princess Gisela: Children--Prince Konrad (1882-1969)

Figure 1.--This is Prince Konrad in a military uniform. The helmet was a style worn by both Austrians and Germans. The portrait was probably taken about 1892 or 93. Konrad looks a great deal like his Uncle Rudolf.

I have little information at this on the children of Princess Gisela of Austria-Hungary and Prince Leopold of Bavaria. There appear to have been several children. One son was Prince Konrad (1883-1969). Konrad was their fourth child. Konrad von Bayern, Prince of Bavaria, was born at Munich 1883. We know very little about him. We have one portrait of him in a spiked helmet and military uniform. Both the Austrians and Germans used this type of uniform. Note that the helmet has a Bavarian and not a German imperial motif. It may be a cadet uniform. We have verylittle information at this time as to what became of Konrad. He probably would have served in World War I. We know he survived the War. He married Bona Margherita, Princess of Savoy-Genua (1921). They had two children: Amalie Isabella (1921-85) and Eugen Leopold, Prince of Bavaria (1925-97). We know nothing about his experience during the NAZI era. He lived until 1969 dying at Hinterstein.
