Belgian School Activities: End of the School Year Activities

Figure 1.--Here we see younger Belgian chilidren participating in the end of the school year ceremonies-- feast of fin d'annee. We are not sure if they are Kindergarteners or first year children. The boys wear white shirts and colored romper pants. The girls wear white dresses. We believe that this was a French (Walloon) rather than a Flemish school. The portrait is undated, but we would guess was taken in the late-1950s or early-60s.

We have only limited information on activities at Belgan schools. We have some Belgian school portraits, but not many showing activities at the schools. We notice some special activities at Belgian schools. A good example is the end of the school year ceremonies. We do not yet have much information on the extent and nature of these ceremonies. We think they are similar to ceremonies st French sdchools. We notice the end of year ceremonies at an unidentified Primary school we would guess in the late-1950s or early-60s (figure 1). We are not sure if they are Kindergarteners or first year children. The children are all dressed up for the ceremony. The boys wear white shirts and colored romper pants. The girls wear white dresses. We believe that this was a French (Walloon) rather than a Flemish school. The portrait is undated, but we would guess was taken in the late-1950s or early-60s. We do not know what the ceremonies were like for older primary children and at secondary schools.
