Virtually all of the other school portraits from the 1910s show most of the boys wearing knickers. This is the only elementary (primary) school we have found where the boys are not wearing knickers. We don't think it is a rural school because only one boy wears overalls. We suspect that the boys come from industrial worker families. The rather tattered look ofthe clothes many of the children are wearing further point to worker families. Only the small size of the school argues against this assessment. The girls wear dresses and long stockings.
