Figure 1.--European school age boys generally wore short hair in a variety of syles during the 20th century, although longer hair was popular in the 1970s-80s with many boys. This image may have dated to about 1930, but this is only a rough estimate.

We have primarily focused our work on specific hair styles and have not yet pieced the information we have collected together to form an overall chronology of boys' hair styles. This we plan to do as we expand our knowlege on diffeent hair styles and the chronology of those styles. We have at this time, however, only very limited overall chronological information developed,although we have developed some more detailed chronological information on specific styles.

Chronology by Century

Like clothing styles, specialized hair styles for children seem a relatively recent development.

We have at this time, however, only very limited overall chronological information developed, although we have developed some more detailed chronological information on specific styles. As we develop chronology pages on the specific styles, we will link them here. We have only a few such chronological style pages at this time, but we do hope to expand these chronological assessments.

Chronology by Country

We are developing Chronological pages in many of our major countries. There once was importanbt differences among countries. They are less pronounced today. This only incluses America, Belgium, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Russia, but we are adding information all the time. There is information on hair styles in other countriesm but with these countties we have an actukl section.
