Boys' Historical Uniform Headwear: Smokey Bear Hats


Figure 1.--This French Scout belongs to a traditional groups of Catholic Scouts that still wear the tradutional Scout hat. This is one of the few modern groups that still wear it.

The hat was made of felt. It had a wide brim with an indented crown, separated into four equal segments. It looks rather looking like a cowboy hat. It has a leather band and a chin strap. This basic style has remained unchanged since it was adopted by Baden Powell in the 1900s. It is often wore with a Scout pin at he front.
