Italian Fascist Youth Group: Girl's Uniforms

Figure 1.--Here we see tThe "Figlie della Lupa" (Fascist younger girls organization) during a village parade. They wear white sun hats and collored rompers (pagliaccetto). Most are barefoot. The picture was taken in Mongiana a mountain village in the region Calabria (South-West Italy) in late 1920s.

We have little information on the girls uniforms. It appeared to have varied somewhat by age level. The basic uniform seems to have been a white blouse with a tie and dark skirt. This was the standard uniform we have seen throughout Italy. We have, however, seen some other uniforms. We note girls at camp wearing white caps and rompers. The girls look to be about 10-11 years old. This appears to be a camp or activities uniform. We also note younger girls wearing colored rompers and a kind of white sun hat. We are not sure to what extent these romper uniforms were standardized throughout the country.

Formal Uniform

We have little information on the girls uniforms. It appeared to have varied somewhat by age level. The basic uniform seems to have been a white blouse with a tie and dark skirt. I'm not sure what the color of the tie ad skirt was, but it looks to be dark blue or black. This was the standard uniform we have seen throughout Italy. We have, however, seen some other uniforms.

Activities Uniform

We note girls at camp wearing white caps and rompers ( pagliaccetto ). The girls look to be about 10-11 years old. This appears to be a camp or activities uniform. Almost certainly these girls also had a formal unifrm of white blouse and dark skirt. We also note younger girls wearing colored rompers and a kind of white sun hat. I'm not sure what color the rompers were. For these very young girls we are not sure if these rompers were their standard formal uniform or an activities unifirm. We are not sure to what extent these romper uniforms were standardized throughout the country.
