The history of the St. George Scouts and the traditionalist Catholic Scout movement is rather complicated. Many groups have been formed and the name of the groups have changed many times.
The French St. George Scouts were formed in 1964. Several heads of the Scouts of France (including Father Revet of Riaumont) left the mainstay French Scout movement to protest against the educational changes. They firmed a new group, the Scouts of Europe which kept the traditional line.
Very quickly conflicts between the different groups which fornmed the Scouts of Europe were appeared. In 1965, the older heads scouts of France left the Scouts Europe to found another movement: the St. George Scouts.
The new ritual of the mass decided by the Vatican in 1969 caused a separation in the St. George Scouts between those which observed the new ritual and those which were faithful has the Latin mass.
The partisans of the new ritual left the St. George Scouts to take part in the creation of the Units Scouts of France (SUF) in February 1971.
After 1971, the St. George Scouts were essentially composed of the troops scouts of Riaumont and some other small groups in PARIS and in its suburbs.
In July 1980, the scouts Holy George changed name for better federating the scouts groups faithful to the traditions and with the catholic values of before the Vatican II.They took the name of "Scouts and Catholic Guides of France".
In 1997, the name still changed for that of "French association of guides and of scouts catholiques". This is the actuel name. The association is not recognized by the Catholic Church and not is member of the World Scout Oganisation. The association has now 2,000
members.
