History

Mainland

Chinese Scouting dates back to the foundation of the modern Cinese nation. The Chinese Republic was established in 1912. The first Chinese Scout troop was organized in WuChang on February 25, 1912. The movement spread rapidly throughout China. The General Association of Chinese Scouts was formally established in Nanking in 1934 and became a member of the International Scout Conference in 1937. The registered membership reached 570,000 in 1941. However, all Scouting activities on the Mainlamd was ended in 1949 when the Chinese communists energed victotious in the Civil War. Despite many changes in China during recent years, Communist authorities there refuse to allow Scouting.

Taiwan

The Association was reorganized in 1950 in Taiwan where many Chinese fled after the Communists seized control of the Mainland. Scouts on the Mainland resumed membership in the International Scout Conference. Since then Scouting has regained its vigorous momentum and became more active than ever. 1950 General Association moved to Taiwan 1956 3rd National Jamboree, Cheng Ching Lake, Kaohsiung 1959 1st Woodbadge Course, Woodbadge system established 1961 1st Rover Moot, Kenting Park, Pingtung 1966 5th Far East Scout Conference, Taipei 15th Far East Training-the-team Course, Taipei 1968 Mr. Teng, Chuan-Kai elected Chairman of the Far East Scout Committee 1970 4th National Jamboree, Hsinfong, Hsinchu 1971 1st National Trainers Course 1972 Mr. Shieh, You-Hwa elected Vice-chairman of Asia-Pacific Scout Committee 1973 1st National Senior Scouts' camp, Kaohsiung 1976 Installation of the committee of Scouting Community Development 1978 5th National Jamboree, Kaohsiung 1980 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Scout PR Seminar, Taipei Dr. Ming-Huey Kao elected member of A-P Scout Committee 1982 Asia-Pacific Professional Scouter's Basic Course, Taipei 1984 6th Asia-Pacific CD Seminar, Taipei National Professional Scouters' Seminar, Penghu Mr. Anthony Si-An Chen elected member of A-P Scout Committee 1985 Seminar on Volunteer & Professional in Scouting, Taipei 1986 6th National Jamboree, Tainan 1988 Dr. Ming-Huey Kao elected member of the World Scout Committee 1989 16th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference, Taipei Mr. Shoei-Yun Wu elected member and vice-chairman of APR Scout Committee 1991 80th anniversary of Boy Scouts of China Participating 17th World Jamboree with 637 Scouts and Scouters 1992 7th National Jamboree, Tainan Mr. Shoei-Yun Wu elected Chairman of A-P Scout Committee 1994 1st APR Workshop on Scout Supply Service Management cum Trade Fair, Yang-Mei, Taoyuan General Association reshuffled, and Dr. Ming-Huey Kao elected Chairman of Boy Scouts of China 1995 Participating 17th World Jamboree with 637 Scouts and Scouters Mr. George P.C. Huang elected member of APR Scout Committee 1996 Ste up the Internet system in Scouting 1997 The English name of General Association of the Scouts of China revised instead of Boy Scouts of China General Association. APR Adult Resources Managerment Seminar, Tainan Scout membership on Taiwan approached 70,000 in 1997.

Structure


Program

Cultivation of good citizenship is the major objective of Scouting movement, and the outdoor activities and community service are considered to be the best ways to achieve this goal.

Activities

Scouting activities include not only the traditional camping, hiking, water sports and so on, but also ham radio, computer operation, JOTA and Internet communication, environment conservation, etc. and through youth Forum to keep up with the high tech industrial trends and the social development. All these programs are led by young adults like Rover and Ranger Scouts who always play an important role in Scouting movement. They are encouraged to plan, implement and evaluate Scouting activities.

Structure

The structure of Taiwan Scouting is similar to that of other natioanl Scouting programs.

Pre-Cub

For 6 1/2 to 8 years olds. The ranks are: Earth, Star, Moon, and Sun.

Cub Scouts

For 8-12 year olds. The ranks are: Wolf, Deer, Panther, and Antelope.

Boy Scouts

For 11 to 15 5ears old. The ranks are Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class.

Senior Scouts

For 14 to 18 years old. The ranks are Lion Class, Great Wall Class, and Natioanl Flpwe Class.

Rover Scouts

For 17 to 21 years old. The ranks are Squire, Warranted, and Service.

Ranger Scouts

For 17 to 21 years old. The ranks are Squire, Warranted, and Service.

Scouters

For over 21 Years old
