Individual Polish Choirs: Krakow

Figure 1.-- We notice a children's choir singing on the occasion of the dedication of a new altar at a church in Krakow (May 8, 2008). It is presumably the church choir, bur we are not entirely sure. The chilsdren wear white shirts with a very floppy dark green nows and black trousers or skirts. There are a few girls singing, but the choir is mostly boys. It must have been televised and probably broadcast on the radio as well. Notice all the electronic equipment.

Krakow is in historic importance second only to Warsaw in Poland. The city is located on the Vistula River in the Lesser Poland region of southern Poland. It is close to the Czech and Slovakian borders. Krakow is one of the oldest cities in Ploland (7th century). Kraków is one of the leading and most prestigious centers of Polish academic, artistic, and cultural life. We notice a children's choir singing on the occasion of the dedication of a new altar at a church in Krakow (May 8, 2008). It is presumably the church choir, bur we are not entirely sure. The chilsdren wear white shirts with a very floppy dark green nows and black trousers. Tge girls may be wearing skierts, but it is imposible to tell from the photograph. There are a few girls singing, but the choir is mostly boys. It must have been televised and probably broadcast on the radio as well. Notice all the electronic equipment. A readr writes, "Aren't they all boys? I suspect the photo was taken when really long hair was 'in' for boys. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th children in the front row look girlish but are wearing trousers like the rest. Girls in a church choir would be unlikely, although it is beginning to happen more often." Well it is a little tricky telling in some instances, but this isn't the 1980s (and remember inder Communism, long hair was discouraged). The photograph was taken in 2010. There are defenitely some girls here. We note one singer, for example, with pendant earings.
