New Zealand Schools in the 1970s: School Uniform

New Zealand children in the 1970s continued the convention of primary children wearing their own clothes to school while most secondary schools required uniforms. Dress at primary schools was very casual. Boys often came to school in "T"-shirts and shorys. Masny were basefoot. Girls who mosdtly wore dresses in the 1960s began to wear more informal clothes like shorts. Secondary schools continued to insist on more formal uniforms. Many secondary schools required ties. Some insisted on blazers. Boys normally wore shorts and kneesocks, except for some of the older boys. Seasonally boys might wear sandals. Girls normally wore dresses or blouses and skirts of various styles.
