While usually not called clerical, most schools in fact offer clerical courses like typing (now called "key boarding") and shorthand. Often they are grouped with other courses. Many schools combined clerical courses with economics for a "commercial". The term clerical is avoided, presumably because boys are not interested and most modern girls are shooting their sights higher.
