Have a look here at the activities at some representative New Zealand Year 8 classes. Some of the descriptions are in the children's own words.
We are a composite Year 7 and 8 class at Pasadena Intermediate School in Auckland, New Zealand. Room 2 like to play sport, we especially enjoy playing soccer, rugby, basketball and netball. We are also talented in art, having our class mural entered in a nationwide competition and being selected in the top 20 out of 400 entries!! Our class mural was about
'Endangered Species'. It was a screenprint and paint on calico. The process involved
Madelin, Tina and Romiza working away on our border. Tony, A.J and Jemal cut out the Weta. Ms. Groves told us what to do with the letters. Mirna cut out the letters. Because we did two murals, there were about 170 letters. Alex and Angela did screenprinting
We are learning Japanese. Every Thursday Yumiko comes into our class and helps us to lean about Japanese. Sometimes we play Japanese games and sing some of the songs Yumiko knew before she came to New Zealand. Our class pets are 'ZINGY' and 'CHEECO'. Here is a message from Zingy, "HI! MY NAME IS ZINGY AND I'M AN
AXOLOTL. I AM FED EVERY SECOND DAY
OF THE WEEK, I EAT RED MEAT(KIDNEY
AND HEART). I'M A MEXICAN FEMALE WALKING FISH. AXOLOTLS ARE
ENDANGERED FROM WHEN THEY FIRST CAME TO EARTH. IN THE BEGINNING THERE WEREN'T MANY AROUND." ZINGY WAS DONATED TO OUR CLASS
WHEN SHE WAS FIVE YEARS OLD. WE
ENJOY FEEDING HER AND SHE LOOKS
SO FUNNY. NEWS UPDATE!!!!
ZINGY NOW HAS A FRIEND, HIS NAME IS
CHEECO AND HE IS WHITE. HE IS A BIT
SHY AT THE MOMENT BUT WE HOPE THEY WILL BE GOOD FRIENDS! Our
class is very talented in sports and many other things. In our class we have 30 students
(including our teacher). Our class won the school cross
country shield and we made a mural for a competition and it
got chosen out of 500 schools to go through to the finals. We like to win
everything!!
