Cashmere High School--From Form Five

The fifth form roll started this year with 260 students. We welcomed a number of overseas students who have fitted in very well, adding a new dimension to the fifth form. Form 5 is all about School Certificate, for most students the first formal academic qualification that they will sit (but hopefully not the last). It is hard work changing from a form 4 student into a more senior member of the school community - congratulations form 5, by and large you have done a really great job. An interesting comment from a parent and student enrolling for Form 6, 1994: "We hear at C.H.S. success in the classroom is thought to be a good thing, not put down." You can be congratulated on this.

This year ninety-three fifth form students have taken six subjects for S C and all have worked hard with the extra load. As well this year there have been twenty-eight fifth form students taking sixth form mathematics, and their results have been very good.

In term one Megan Cook, Wayne Hockery and Amanda White went to Australia on a Rotary Exchange Student Exchange. They returned in term two, bringing with them their Australian hosts' son or daughter. Alison Crawford (Megan Cook), Peter Moore (Wayne Hockery) and Lynley Keal (Amanda White) proved to be great ambassadors for their country and themselves - as Megan, Wayne and Amanda had for us while in Australia.

Many fifth formers have been actively involved in the wider area of the school: the Production, sports events, musical and other activities have seen a high level of fifth form participation. Congratulations to all of those people.

This year the fifth form physical education classes, excluding the six-subject students, have taken on board a new scheme in which they run a particular sporting event themselves. This has proved most successful and was very well run by the students.

To all Form 5 students, congratulations on a great year. I look forward to an even better year with you as Form 6 students in 1994.
