Many schools have dress uniforms which the students wear for special occassions. This is essentially the readitional English school uniform. The dress uniform normally includes a blazer, tie and white shirt. A sweater can be added on cool days, but is not required. At some schools the older boys wear long pants with the dress uniform, but this varies from school to school. At some schools all boys wear short pasnts even with the dress uniform. Boys wearing shorts wear kneesocks and shoes as part of the dress uniform, never the more informal sandals even during the summer. Caps once were commonly worn, but are now worn at only a few private preparatory schools..
