New Zealand School Hosiery: Boys Kneesocks--Colors


Figure 1.-- Most New Zealand schools had grey knee socks. A few had navy blue or black kneesicks. These were usually worn with matching short pants.

There were a relatively small number of colors used for school knee socks. Most New Zealand schools had grey kneesocks as paet of their uniforms. This followed the trend in Britain. The grey knee sicks matched the grey short psnts that many schools had as part of their school uniforms. A few schools had black or dark blue kneesocks. This was more of a Scottish influence. These schools generally had dark blure or black shorts to go with these matching knee socks. The grey knee socks, however, were much more common. There were also light colored kneesocks. At some secondary schools, the senior boys were allowed to wear these.
