This presumably reflects the uniforms worn in British schools where grey sweaters were also standard. The grey sweaters usually had colored trim. Some schools had plain grey sweaters. More commonly grey sweaters had colored trim at the neckband to show the school colors. Normally the sweater trim matched the colored bands on the keesocks and the school tie. A few schools had sweaters with crests. At the schools where boys wore blue short pants, the standard sweater color was dark blue. Schools with blue shorts often have matching dark blue sweaters. We have not noticed schools combining blue shorts and grey sweaters, although he have noticed grey shirts with blue sweaters. Increasingly schools are now adopting more brightly colored sweaters instead of the more traditional grey ones. We notice schools with other colors such as brown, green, and red. Usually these colored sweaters did not have colored trim so common with the grey sweaters.

We noted several schools in the midst of making the change from grey sweaters. In addition to the grey and dark blue school sweaters, We noticed schools with other color sweaters such as bright blue, brown, green, and red. Usually these colored sweaters did not have colored trim so common with the grey sweaters. Often the color selected was the same as the school blazer. The colored sweaters were normally worn with grey long or short pants. Other parts of the uniform such as the color of the blazer or the trim on the kneesocks did not change.
