Photo Pages: School Newspaper

Figure 1.--One of the most popular activities at New Zealand secondary schools is music. These boys are taking a music class, but there are many opportunities to pursue music outside the classroom at New Zealand schools.

The school newspaper is an important institution at schools in most English-speaking country. It provides a variety of experiences to utilize accademic skills and to acquire a great deal of highly valuable practical experience.

Cashmere Circuit

Cashmere Circuit, the school newspaper, is now in its tenth year of production. The production work has bei enthusiastically tackled this year by the two sixth form Media Studies classes and by a group of interested reporters from the rest of the school. Students are involved in every step of production, from funding througi advertisements to journalism to photography to layout skills. It's a demanding and time-consuming exercise but the result and the learning experiences make it well worth while.

The paper serves as a new medium for communication both within the school and to the local community. We hope you have enjoyed the results of our efforts, and look forward to resuming production in 1994.

Lymphad, Cashmere High School, 1993
