Commerce

A highlight for the year was the continued success in "The Great Investment Race", sponsored by the National Bank. In November 1996, we heard that a WBHS team had succeeded in winning not only the schools' competition, but had also defeated the 360 adult banking teams from a cross the country - a remarkable achievement, with a first prize of $2,500 worth of computer equipment. In 1997, after leading most of the way, Gangles', (Ross Alexander, Gavin Bowen and Matthew Hutton) were just pipped at the post by Otago Girls', although still won $1,000 worth of book vouchers. The competition involved juggling various unit trusts over 6 decision rounds, with options including various property and equity markets. We are grateful to the National Bank for running the competition and look forward to participating again next year.
