Physical Education or PE has been a traditional standard at Britgish and American schools for years, but many schools and deephazied the subject and in many cases made it optional. New Zealand schools continue to place a considerable emphasis on PE. This is coupled with an activities program that provide opportunities for children of all abilities to participate in and enjoy sport.
As students taking part In Physical Education during Term 2 we have been very involved with the organisation of a basketball tournament.
Each team took turns at duties and each player had the responsibility of being a captain, a manager, a coach, a referee and a scorer. Points were awarded for fair play, every team member being in uniform, attitude and involvement. A draw was made up and, after the tenth week of playing a "round robin" tournament, we had our finals. Two teams, BOOVA and LE.OOPS competed, LE.OOPS taking out first place.
Term two was a successful one with the guidance of Mr Sawyer and Mrs Brodie. After some great feedback from other 5GK and 5G1 students, the tournament was considered very successful. Many thanks go to the sponsors for the tournament, including Pizza Hut Tip Top, Meadowfresh, Sugarloaf Bakery, Arnotts Biscuits, and our biggest--Smokefree.
