Teachers at the primary level commonly work with the children to provide some speech abd debate experiences. At the secondary level there are commonly optional speech courses. The offerings here depend somewhat on the size of the school. There are competitions at different levels for speech giving. Often schools hold competitions, but there are also competitions among the schools.

Senior Speech Competition

Yet again, the quality of the five speeches proved to be very high, with the five speakers informing and entertaining their 6th form audience. Kane Kipa was first up, enlightening the crows with his views on "The Haka, the dance of nobel people". Richard Steward was next, with a highly entertaining speech on "The Role od Sport at Lelston". The audience enjoyed this one. The eventual winner was Andrew Marsh who attacked the language of politicians in highly satirical form with emphasis on Winston Peters. Overall, there was not much in it, and the five contestants certainly have a confidentvspeaking style that will benefit them in the future.
