Figure 1.--

Many New Zealand schools have tutoring programs. This normlly involves teachers, community volunteers (often parents), and older students. The program is a important aid to those students that are making an effort in their studies and need a little extra help.

Reading Tutors

The effort this year has been put into Form One as we hope this will give them the boost they need before reaching secondary level. I want to make special mention of Mrs Helen Mowbray, Mrs Rahana Ekanayake, Mrs Helen Quicke and Mrs Rosaleen Yarrow who have given their time to help students with reading difficulties. They have been unfailingly patient and have given invaluable help to the students whom they have worked with. As in the past our 7th formers have willingly given up a study period to budy up with a Form One student requiring reading assistance. This is a programme that not only helps with reading but with the adjustment to a new school. Thank you to the parents and the 7th formers who made this reading programme possible.
