Boys but not so much the girls love to build models. This seems to be declining somewhat in popularity, but we notice that this was still a popular free-time activity at several schools. Some even had an area reserved for model building. These hobbies or model rooms are made available to the children during their leisure time. Most boys worked with plastic model kits. The most popular models are military planes, but fancy sports cars are also popular. Almost always the children select plastic models, but a few schools encourage the use of more demanding wooden models. At some schools the children not only build models, but then often arrange them in realistic battle scenes. Not all schools promoted this activity and unless an area was specifically set aside, it is difficult for boys to work on their projects. The boys not only worked on models, but also minature battle scenes with toy soldiers. The boys we met were quite passionate about this activity.
