The annual celebration at the end of the school year is commonly called speech day as a guest speaker is invited to provide advise to the school leavers. The children are probasbly more interested in the prizegiving ceremony following the speech. Here they receie awards for acdemics, sports, music, and other school activities. Many of the awards are presented as cups. There are also a range of house cups. Some of the awards are fairly stanndard, but there ae also many awards unique to each individual school.
Beaudesert Park School held its annual speech day and prizegiving on 19th July. Over 400 people attended and were able to hear some good advise from Mr. Christopher Turner, headmaster of Dean Close , Cheltenham, who was the guest speaker. The school is 70 years old this year and has been administered by a governing body for 10 years and is, at this moment, under the chairmanship of Dr. Jeremy Mayrick. It was a sad occassion to saying farewell to a senior member of staff, Mr. A.H.R. Chalmers, who has been teaching at Beaudsert since 1933, apart from five yearswhich he spent in the Gloucestershire Regiment during the war. Later he became Colonel of the T.A. Battalion. The occassion also marked the passing of 50 years of teaching by Mr. D.M. Anderson. Presentations were made to both these menfor their outstanding service to Beaudesert, contributions having been made by a large number of families present and past pupils.

"Sir, have you seen our new car?"
Sir, if I haven't won anything can I go before the prize-giving?"
Sir, does Matron give the staff funny pills as well as us?"
Please sir, are you going to give us any end of term tuck?"
Believe it or not I was asked all these questions on the last day of the summer term before I left Bramcote. The answers were easy: "Yes"; "No"; "Only on Sundays"; and "Don't be silly". ....
