Class Forms: Form I

Entry

The dsesirable age for entry is, of course, 7. Though entries at other ages are considered, it should be stressed that the best results are usually achieved by those boys who join the school at 7 or 8. There is no entrance test, but the Headmaster interviews all potential entries and asks them to read from a book suitable to their age and to do a few simple sums; he also requires a report from the school they are attending prior to entry. ....

The Junior School

Mrs. Skertchly continues to lead and inspire us from Form I with her unvarying enthusiasm, so that all our events have proven successful. The Christmas and Easter concerts were enjoyed by all, and in the Summer Term we had an enjoyable (if very wet) Summer Fair and picnic at the Rossendale Centre. Our informal Sports Night was great fun and we were most impressed by some of our parents' agility in the three-legged race!

Conversation in Form 1
Boy: I've written 'I slidded on the ice' and I spelt 'slidded' all by myself.
Mrs. S: That's a very good try but actually we say 'I slid'.
Boy (with gritted teeth): Well I slidded and I spelt it myself

Up in the Props Cupboard

Collington came into the form one morning and said, All babies up in the props cupboard in break."
"Where's that?" I asked.
"I'll show you when you have to go up there," he said.
Break came and I followed everybody up there. It's cool fun up there. All the clothes are up there for the plays. I had to try ona bonet and a t-shirt. That was all I had to wearbecause thre was going to be a hug bed made and the audience wouldn't see below waist height.

Drama

Fourth Game have activities on Mondays and I go to drama. Each time Mr Thomas helps to perform little scenes. For example, once four of us formed a cirrcle and one person pretended to be dead and he had to fall over. On other occassions we have pretended that we are on inderground trains. It's very good fun.
