We have some basic information about school routines which provide a great deal of useful informtion about the schools and operations on a daily basis. The school routine information gives a good understanding of how the school day is structured. The time period covered is of course different for day and boarding schools. There are many similarities, but also some destinct features at individual schools. The school routine is affected by the type of school.

Daily Routine

The school day begins with reayers for the whole school. An interesting variety of hymns, both traditional nd modern, are arranged by the Music Mster, and frquently boys tke part in the accompaniment or the choir sing solo verses. Boys take it in turn to read passages from the Bible, and the whole school takes part. Lessons start at 9, 10 and there is a 25 minute break during the morning. All boys attend school lunch. Taqbles are supervised by the teaching staff and good table manners are insisted upon. There is another break after linch and then lessons or games until 3.55 when the school day ends.

Routine

At 8.45 the day officially begins with Assembly and, for all but Form 1 pupils, on most weekdays it ends at 5.30 p.m. On Wedenesday and Saturdays the afternoons are used solely for games and the day ends at 4 p.m.; not all children are required to play games on Saturfay afternooms. Form 1, the 8 year olds, always finish their day at 4.00 p.m. and do not attend School on Saturdays. Provision is made for day pupils to say in School after 4.00 p.m. if they are waiting for an elder brother or sister , and for boarders to be gainfully occupied under supersision. Homework (preparation) is included in the day's timetable, except on Wednesdays and at weekends, and so, although thevday may appear to be longer, it does not mean that once the child has left School there is usually bo further academic work to be done.

Junior Day Boys

The junior day-boy will normally be free to go home immediately after afternoon school or games, but many extra-curricular activitoes are arranged by the house outseide school hours to help boys to enter into the life of the School as fully as posible and to enjoy the benefits of living in a community.

Finishing Classes

Getting to school in the morning is a fairly orderly affair for both day boys and boarders. The childrem have had a good nights sleep and a good breakfast. They are thus ready and primed for the day's sctivities. Even the younger children quickly learn and adjust to the school routine. Finishing classes in the afternoon is a little different. After a day of hard work some of the boys are ready to let off a little energy. This isn't really a reflection on the school program. Rather it is the nature of little boys. The classroom environment is a little more srtressdul fvor boys than girls who are more enclined for quiet activities. Here boys are also different than adults. Adults want to go home an relax. Boys in particular have a kind of pent up feeling and are ready for a little energetic play. This goes for both the day boys and the boarders.
