More Casual Uniform Approach: Everyday Uniform
Figure 1.--The common everyday uniform at prep schools is a shirt and tie, although some schools have dispensed with the ties. When the weather is cool the children have the option of adding a jumper (sweater). Blazersare not commonly worn to class at most boarding\ schools.

The major change made in the uniform has been with the every day uniform. Dress for the classroom became much less formal. Boys mostly wore sweaters and shirts to class. A good example of typical classroom wear is the boy seen here (figure 1). Many schools required ties, but this varied widely from school to school. Blazers were rarely worn during the day. Here the motivation is comfort as well as to keep the chikldren from wearing out the blazers through rough usage. Some schools began dropping the tie for everyday wear, but this varied widely from school to school. At the vast majority of schools the boys just wore their sweaters duting the school day during the Fall and Winter terms and just their shorts during the Summer term. Although the sweater is normally seen as an optional item wich the child can cj\hose to wear or not to wear. Another common everday garment was grey shirts. They do not show the dirt like the white shirts worn for more casual occassions.
