Uniforms Shirts: Colored Shirts--Blue

Figure 1.--The boys at this school wore a light-blue short-sleeved shirt durung the summer term. Dark blue shirts were less common.

Quite a few schools had adopted colored shirts as part of the school uniform. The most commom color for school uniform shirts was blue. We note blue shirts being worn at quite a few schools. Here there were a wide variety of blue shades. These were usually light blue shirts, but we also note some dark blue as well at a few schools. And there were blue-green shades as well. Grey shirts were not worn at the schools with blue shirts. They were commonly worn for both dress occassions and regular school days, with some exeptions. We see boys at some schools wearing the blue shirts to chufch, but some also had white shirts for formall occassions. As far as we know, these schools did not use white shirts for formal occassionsas was common for schools whre the boys wore grey shirts. Here there was also some seasonal variation.
