We note a Soviet display of fashionable knitwear in 1959. We are not sure, however, what it represents. A reader believes it may be a factory display of its product line. It may be a fashion/design house display rather than a store display of actual items for sale. Unfortunately the only complete word is ???????? which means industrial
complex. The word in front of it is an adjective, (I can tell from the
ending) and my best guess would be ???????????, which means knitted/
knitwear, so "Knitwear Factory" would be about the closest translation.
Unfortunately, a lot of Soviet era institutions (and many Russian businesses
today) have names which describe exactly what they do, but do not use the
idea of branding. (Good examples are Rosneft and Gazprom, whose names are
shortened versions of Russian Oil and Industrial Gas, respectively). Many
factories (and schools etc.) simply had numbers, others recycled the names
of significant Communist Party members. If there is a word at the bottom, it
is too blurred to make out - it may be a place name.
