George Bolyne (1510?-1536)

Figure 1.--Anne Boleyn's little brother George served as a descrete chaperone during Hebnry's visits to Hever Castle, the family residence. .

George was Sir Thomas Boleyn's only son. His two older sisters were Mary and Anne. We have virtually no information about the childhood of the Boleyn children. As a boy, George apparently occassionally served as a chaperon for his sister and the King Henry VIII during his visits to the family residence Hever Castle. When Anne was sent to Court, Sir Thomas secured a place for George as well. Like the other members of the Bolyne family, George bebnefitted greatly from his sister's accendacy. He must have been very close to Anne. She apparently revealed her assessment that the King was impotent. Geirge's reoaeating of this in idle chatter was to cost him his life. He was sentenced to be drawn and quartered, but in the end, like his sister, he was beheaded.
