Frederich Wilhelm Children's Garments: Headwear--Flat Caps


Figure 1--Here the princes wear flat caps and sailor caps. Note the boys in riding togs wear flat caps. I'm not sure about the date that this image was taken, probably during the War. Wilhelm looks about 9 or 10 years old which would mean about 1915-16. Umage courtesy of Albumn1900.

We note images of the boys wearing flat caps when worgking with horses--at least the older boys. Unlike images showing all the boys dressed alike, images of the older boys in flat caps sometimes show the younger boys still wearing sailor caps. This may have been a style seen suitable for riding when for other occassiond the boys still wore sailor caps. This we are not sure about. A photograph after the Wars show them wearing flat caps with suits and not neceessarily for riding.
