Prince Luitpold: Relatives

Figure 1.-- We note a portrait of Prince Luitpold with some of his his first cousins. They included Maria Antoinetta, Maria Cristina, Barbara, Lucie and Urraca of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. We are not sure just who is present here. The little boy in the group we believe is Luitpold's brother, Prince Albrecht. We are not sure if the child at the extreme right is a boy or girl. The princesses' mother was Princess Maria of Bavaria who married the Duke of Calabria in 1897. (Maria's only son, Ruggerio, died in 1914, at the age of 13 and does not appear to be in this portrait. The portrait is undated, but we would guess was taken about 1909.

The Bavarian royal family had connections with many other European royals. There were quite a few portraits taken with Luitpold over time. Usually the children were dressed up in formal outfits for the portraits. It is interesting to see how similarly royals from different countries were dressed.
