European Royalty: Russia--The Tsaraevich Alexei's Army Uniforms

Figure 1.--Alexei is seen here with his dog joy wearing a World War I uniform, styled like a Russian blouse. Notice the belt-over style.

After joining his father during World War I at the front he almost always appeated in a plain army uniform. There appears to have been two styles. One had a type of Russian blouse tunic with a belt over the blouse. The other had more of a standard World War I military-styled shirt. I'm not sure whose idea this was and what say, if any, Alexei had in how he was dressed. He appears to have worn this outfit as his every day outfit and not just for public appearances. After he started wearing this, he is rarely pictured in other outfits. He wore it with a peaked cap. Some of the outfits had rank motorboards. I'm not sure what rank he had. One photograph shows him wearing a badge. I'm not sure what the badge was. Alexei even wore the army uniform in captivity after the family was arrested by the Bolshevicks.
