Clothing for Alfonso XIII's Children: Short Pants Outfits


Figure 1.--As younger boys the princes wore a variety of short pants outfists. This is Prince Juan in 1916. Although he never became king, the sucession was passed on to his son Juan Carlos. Notice how the girls are all wraped up, but Prince Juan is not.

We have no written information on the clothing worn by the children. Available images show that the boys when they were younger wore a variety of short pants outfits. Some appear to be simple jumpers and shorts. Other outfits appear to be button-on suits with blouses and shorts. They were worn with different collars and in open and closed neck styles. All of these outfits appear tonhave had short pants. White socks were normally worn with the shorts.
