Carl as was common with royalty had tudors as a little boy. His parents then broke precedent and was sent to a boarding school. Some images suggest a rather British looking uniform, but we are not sure just what the uniform regulations were at the school. Here Carl wears a peaked cap and school blazer that are indestinguishable from a British schoolboy (figure 1). Carl was sent to a boarding school. This may be the the reason the uniform was similar to British schools. Few Swedish boys went to schols requiring uniforms and we do not think British school styles were very common in Sweden. Sweden is not a country which HBC has developed much informatiin about, se we have little bacjground on general styles for Swedish boys. Carl also has a plaid school satchel. We are not sure how common these satchels were in Sweden, but it is a style of satchel popular in the 1950s. We note another portrait that also looks like a school photograph wears he wears a suit rather than a blazer.
