Figure 1.--This portrait was taken in 1872, about 10 years after Albert passed away. Most of the Queen's family is now married and have children. I'm not sure what the occassion was. We can identify some, but not all of the individuals. Let us know if yoy can identify any of the individuals. Click on the image for an enlargement.

This portrait was taken in 1872, about 10 years after Albert passed away. Most of the Queen's family is now married and have children. I'm not sure what the occassion was. We can identify some, but not all of the individuals. The easiest way of addressing the question is to identify Victoria's childre. Their spouses and children are grouped around them. I'm less sure about the children knealing down in front. Do let us know if you can identify any of the individuals.

Occssion

This portrait was taken in 182, about 10 years after Albert passed away. )Notice the portrait of Albert in the basckground.) Most of the Queen's family is now married and have children. I'm not sure what the occassion was.

Individuals

We can identify some, but not all of the individuals. The easiest way of addressing the question is to identify Victoria's childre. Their spouses and children are grouped around them. I'm less sure about the children knealing down in front. Of course Queen Victoria is at the center of the family. She wears a black dress and white hair cover.

Victoria (1840-1901)

Victoria's first child was the Princess Royal Victoria who was born 1840 and known as Vicky. She is easy to spot, the woman at the Queen's right. At the extreeme right is Frederich, the German crown prince abnd future Emperor Frederich III. The girls around them are their children. The sailor suited boy who Frederich has his hand on is Prince Wilhelm, the future Emperor Wilhelm II. The still not breeched boy with ringlets on his lap is Prince Henry.

Albert Edward (1841-1910)

Victoria's second child was the Crown Prince Albert Edward, the future Edward VII who was born 1841 and called Bertie within the family. Berie is also easy to spot, looking quite regal immediately behind his mother. (Notice that a portrait of his father Prince Albert is immediately behind him.) His wife Alexandria is immediatelt to Vuctoria's left. His oldest son Albert Victor is to his right. I thik Georgie (the future George V) is peeking over his mother's shoulder. The child on Alexandria's lap is probably Maud.

Alice (1843-1878)

Victoria's third child was the Princess Alice who was born 1843. She was especially close to Vicky.

Alfred (1844-1900)

Victoria's fourth child was Prince Alfred who was born in 1844. Alfred was especially close to Bertie. >br>

Helena (1846-1923)

Victoria's fifth child was Princess Helena who was born in 1846.

Louise (1848-1939)

Victoria's sixth child was Princess Louise who was born in 1848.

Arthur (1850-1942)

Victoria's seventh child was Prince Arthur who was born in 1850.

Leopold (1853-84)

Victoria's eighth child was Prince Leopold who was born in 1853. I am guessing that Leopold might be the boy in the kilt and the front right.

Beatrice (1857-1944)

Victoria's ninth child was Princess Beatrice who was born in 1857. I think Beatrice might be one of the girls at the front.
